We Need To Talk

Posted in Uncategorized by nycartstyle on September 7, 2009

Yes, it’s the talk.

There’s all sorts of phrases people say for when they want to quit but sound cool doing it; “Go out with a bang.” “Leave while the party is still full.” “Retired while you are at the top of your game.”

Unfortunately none of those phrases suit the situation I’m in with NYC Art Style.

It’s been 3 years, and a couple of months since I came up with this name. Blogging has been a hell of a lot of fun. I finally found a way to connect with people who loved fashion just as much as I did. However now the fashion blog world is changing, and I don’t want to hide behind an anonymous screen name anymore pretending I like it. So I have decided to stop blogging at NYC Art Style.

This isn’t the end of blogging for me. I have opened another blog under my real name and identity. This way I can discuss my work and how fashion relates to me personally instead of struggling for new post ideas that everyone else hasn’t already done. If you would like the url address for that blog please let me know in a comment below and I will give it you. I am not going to post it here because I wish to continue to post at The Fashion Spot under this name, and it’s hard to be honest over there if everyone knows your true identity.

I will also to continue to update my twitter at twitter.com/nyc_art_style. I update there way more than I do on this blog anyway.

It’s been fun, and I’m sorry to see this chapter of my blog life close, but all good things must come to an end.

Love,

Brittany

Marc’s Best Combination

It sounds odd when you say it out loud, but yellow and blue look absolutely amazing together, especially in the hands of Marc Jacobs. I first noticed Marc’s gift with the two colors at his spring summer 09 show. Now in the Fall 09 ad campaign model Kamilla sports a large yellow coat and shocking electric blue eye shadow. The look just has a certain spark and is so much fun.

She’s Under My Skin

So I have a thing for Effy Stonem, a character from the british tv show Skins. Played by actress Kaya Scodelario, Effy is the girl everyone wanted to be or be with in high school. She’s reckless, mysterious, and at times trashy, but always looks gorgeous doing so.  Effy dons perfect smoky eye makeup, that makes her eyes look so stunning  and seductive. It’s as though the stylists who work on Skins work tirelessly on Effy’s look, and every other character is just an after thought. Yet Effy’s look is effortless and cool. So props to Kaya, the stylists, and the creators of Skins, who brought this amazing character into my life.

And if you haven’t seen Skins, go watch it now!

Christian Louboutin, Chanel, Givenchy, Burberry, Alexander McQueen, Doc Martens

I recently saw those Louboutins in Vouge Paris, and instantly fell in love. A part of me wishes the studs were only in the front and back and not all over though. I’ll be showing those Givency heels until the end of time, so get used to it. I’m a little sad about the McQueen boots though, the platform is a little weird, and I can’t imagine anyone wearing them on the streets. Hopefully someone will pop up on Jak and Jil and prove me wrong. Lastly the Doc Martens, I need them. I am too obsessed with combat boots and skeletons to let them slip by. I haven’t bought a pair of Docs yet because I always feel like they make my feet look huge, but I’m willing to let that go for these. They’re like a punk version of the Comme Des Garcons f/w0910 shoes. Right now they’re about 150 dollars. So I may have to wait till they go on sale a bit.

I’ve been fascinated with metal body suits lately, so it’s a good thing they’re becoming popular. Too bad they can’t really be street wear.
