Fashion Has Been Exposed…and It’s Starting to Smell Bad
Back in 2005, when I first discovered Gemma Ward, Gucci, Prada, and Daria, I had one hell of a time trying to find more information and photos on them. It would be bothersome at times when I wanted to talk about models or designers and no one knew what the hell I was talking about. Fashion was so exclusive and secretive.
However, Fashion has changed, and suddenly everyone thinks they’re a fashionista.
I blame America’s Next Top Model as the first culprit. People who claimed they were fashion insiders pretended to give good advice about how to be a high fashion model. Trya and her crew showed you what would happen at photo shoots, in make-up rooms, and in model apartments. Never mind the fact that 70% of the girls who have been on ANTM could never become successful high fashion models due to mother nature alone, that’s not even adding in their so called talent.
However ever since ANTM, fashion related entertainment has been popping up. Shows like Stylista and Project Runway claim to give an inside look to magazine editors and designers. Magazines like Teen Vogue have their question and answer issues about getting jobs in fashion. Not only are labels like Dior and Chanel mainstream, but labels like Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander Wang, and Phillip Lim are too. Lastly every minute there is a new celebrity who claims they can be a fashion designer.
The Fashion World has swelled into this huge mass. It’s a bit unsettling.
It just means us real fashion lovers have to cut away at a lot of fat.
Fuel Your Addiction
I am a magazine addict. I buy at least six magazines a month. Price is not an issue to me if the contents are good enough.
I consider my magazine addiction a serious problem. I shouldn’t be spending so much money on pretty pictures that I could just go and see online. However, magazines just make me happy. There’s something about holding that thick tomb of papers in your hands, and flipping through the glossy pages. It just sets my soul aflame.
Therefore you can imagine my excitement when i saw this cover of Lara Stone for i-D. It’s the God’s Gift Issue. Lara is so freaking sexy on the cover. Her eyes are amazing, and her cheek-bones are killer.
This issue is a must buy.
However I have to wait about two more weeks before I can get my hands on it. (sobs)
I actually hate this period in the middle of the month. About the 5th to the 20th of every month is horrible because no new magazines are out. By this time of the month I already have all the new issues that I want.
So then how do I fuel my addiction? I go into the archives of Vogue Paris.
Vogue Paris is just a bundle of awesomeness. It’s near perfection.
My favorite editorials of all time have to be anything with Daria Werbowy modeling, Emmanuelle Alt styling, and Inez Van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin photographing. I recently brought Vogue Paris April 2006, inside Daria has an editorial titled “Noces Blanches” It’s stunning, especially this one picture of Daria in a bunny mask. Sigh, 2006 was a good year for magazines.
Anyway I hope the wait for the November issues doesn’t kill you, like it’s killing me. Just vist The Fashion Spot, or style.com, or my blog to ease the pain.

Kate Lanphear
While you were looking at the latest shows in the Paris Collections, I was looking at what the editors were wearing; and Kate Lanphear of Elle Magazine has really caught my eye. She pretty much has my dream job and closet.
With shocking platnium blond hair cut into a chic bob, and a closet full of black, white and grey, Kate is the edigest editor New York has to offer. Her personal style can rival the editors of Vogue Paris, especially her accessories. Her work in Elle is decent enough. While flipping through my Elle’s last night I can see her work has gotten better over time. Kate normally styles those “The Look” pages in Elle, and occasionally editorials.
I wonder how Kate feels working for a magazine that exploits itself through trashy tv shows, and even trashier celebrities on it’s covers that Elle drowns with text. Kate is too good for Elle. Oh well perhaps she and Joe Zee (Creative Director) can save Elle from the gates of death.

I’m in Love…
With Fashion. Ever since the age of 14, when I first set my eyes on Gemma Ward, I have been hooked. So much in fashion gets my heart pumping; gowns by Karl Lagerfeld, editorials in Vogue Paris, and models from Canada to Australia. I gasp when I see a beautiful accessory, and I cringe when I see a tacky stiletto. I get worked up over who’s on the cover of a magazine, and saddened when designers retire, editors get fired, and when models leave high fashion to make babies or worst do Victoria’s Secret.
The Fashion World is something that I want to know everything about. It’s also a world I want to enter and make my mark in.
That’s why I created this blog. It’s a place for me to express my passion for fashion. A place to learn from others, and to chronicle my journey of becoming a part of the fashion world.
I have a xanga by the same name. It is fairly successful and I hope my readership has followed me here. Now that I’m close to defining the type of person I am, it’s time for me to expand and reach out to other readers and responders.
